It is known that uric acid is the very reason for those painful gout attacks. Considering this, avoiding high purine foods that can increase uric acid levels in the body is highly recommended. Your gout diet should make this a priority.

Your gour diet should include low to moderate protein content in it. All the proteins including the fish, meat, poultry should be within 4 to 6 ounces a day only. Furthermore, limit the fat intake with leaner meats and lesser oils in your food as much as possible. Among the recommended low-purine sources of protein are eggs, tofu, and low fat dairy products.

New England Journal of Medicine published a study on Mar 11, 2004 revealing that low-fat dairy products reduce the risk of gout by as much as 50%. It is however unknown up to now the reason why low-fat dairy products have such protective effect.
In terms of fluid intake, drink 2 to 3 liters of water every day as this help dilute urinary uric acid. Lessen your alcohol intake, particularly the beer, to just 1 drink thrice a week.
