Maid of Honor Speeches to Impress

It’s always a great honor to be asked to be someone’s maid of honor. Many maids of honor are excited to agree, but aren’t aware of all the duties that come along with it.Most maids of honor dread maid of honor speeches.Public speaking isn’t really on a lot of people’s top ten favorite things to do list. The thing to remember about writing your maid of honor speech though, is that no matter how much public speaking scares you, you’re there for the bride. So if you’re trying to write maid of honor speeches and are having a load of problems, here are some great tips to help you get started.

Know When to be Funny

You need to be careful with this one. We’ve all heard people get up to do a speech, as we’ve all seen jokes fall flat to the embarrassment of everbody - even you! You don’t want this to happen to you. Neither do you want an inside joke that only you and the bride will understand. The best way to do this is to think of some stories from the times before the wedding when you and the bride were the best of friends. Another idea is to start talking about what the bride used to tell you about the groom when they first started dating, it’s easy to make a funny story out of that.

Say Something from the Heart

You need to, be sure to be serious some as well. Be sure to tell them how great they look together, how well they compliment each other, or verses with a blessing for the couple. If you like writing poetry or songs, write one especially for the couple, and read the lyrics in your speech. You don’t even have to write one from scratch, just find a famous poem or quote that you can use. Give them your well wishes for the future, and some wedding advice that they can use, and wish them a long and happy life together.

Absolute DO NOTS

As with any to do list, there are some things you should never put into a maid of honor speech. Some of these you should know just from basic accepted social conduct. First of all, don’t get too personal with stories about the bride and groom - you do not want to embarrass them. Secondly, write and practice your speech before it’s time to deliver it. If you don’t, you may start rambling which gets boring and obvious that you didn’t prepare. Last, don’t focus on any problems they may have had during their relationship. Bringing up problems of the past doesn’t let them completely enjoy their day.

Keep in mind that maid of honor speeches should be from the heart, and directed at the couple with a special focus on the bride. The best man will be focusing his attention on the groom, therefore it is your job to focus on the bride. Be sure to give the bride something that she will remember and treasure after the wedding day.
